Elsternwick may be a long way from Russia but Nevsky Russian Restaurant makes it feel just that little bit closer. The chef hails from St Petersburg and the restaurant captures a taste of the city, from the simple yet classic combination of chandeliers and white tablecloths to a menu showcasing the rich flavours of Russian and eastern European cuisine. Start perhaps with a traditional borsch or lososina (vodka, sea salt and sugar cured Atlantic salmon on rye bread), moving on to roasted duck legs served atop braised red cabbage with apples and sultanas, potato croquette and orange brandy sauce, washed down with some of the many premium and flavoured vodkas available.
