Classic Thai cuisine with some refreshingly unique touches makes Palm Sugar Royal Thai in Richmond well worth tracking down. The service at this smart little Bridge Road restaurant, set over two levels, is friendly and so are the prices. Sure to delight is the dumpling plate entrée – six assorted dumplings, each intricately crafted like a miniature work of art. Other menu highlights include the yellow curry chicken encased in a basket of puff pastry, and the Pud Thai, Palm Sugar’s own take on that eternal Thai favourite, featuring tamarind, sweet radish and roasted peanuts. Servings this generous probably won’t leave you hungry but if you have room, the banana fritter with black rice pudding makes a sweet end to the evening.
