There is nothing like having a connection to Bushrangers. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the notorious Bushrangers, the Kenniff Brothers, tethered their horses under this magnificent old Coolibah tree between their many cattle and horse stealing escapades.
Often referred to, (but not entirely accurate) as 'Australia's Last Bushrangers', Patrick and James (Jimmy) Kenniff, lived a life filled with horse stealing, cattle duffing, armed robbery and let's not forget murder!
Growing up in New South Wales, the boys moved to Queensland in the 1890's. Settling in and around the Mitchell area, it wasn't long before their career in stealing horses and cattle from surrounding properties began. After several years of this rascally lifestyle the boys were finally captured, their trial was held at the Roma Magistrate Court.
Their fate - one sentenced to jail, the other hung.
